Zirconium diboride (ZrB2) is an ultra high temperature ceramic (UHTC) with a melting point of more than 3200°C. It has a hexagonal crystal structure. ZrB2 is used in aerospace sector because of its relatively low density (~6.09 g/cm3 ) and good high temperature strength. Similar to titanium diboride and hafnium diboride it has relatively high thermal and electrical conductivities.
ZrB2 powder can be used for making hot pressed shapes or with sintering additives such as boron carbide and carbon which react with the surface oxides to increase the driving force for pressureless sintering.
